Before Dr. Mathura founded Diabetic Eye DC, he was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and an attending physician at
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Co-Director of the Vitreoretinal Service at the
George Washington University for a combined 12 years. In both of these roles, Dr. Mathura taught and lectured medical students, residents and ophthalmology fellows. He also was the principal investigator and co-investigator in multiple clinical trials and authored journal articles and book chapters. He became a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2004 and was re-certified by the ABO in 2014.
Dr. Mathura is an avid reader and keeps current with medical literature and cutting edge treatments and technology. Because of his experience and knowledge in the field, his expertise is frequently sought after by other ophthalmologists, medical doctors in other specialties, optometrists and other professionals.
Diabetic Eye DC’s philosophy emphasizes individualized care and attention for every patient and accessibility to both patients and referring doctors. Dr. Mathura routinely gives out his cell phone number to physicians and critical patients and is also easily reached through our answering service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Dr. Mathura has been happily married for over 16 years and enjoys the privilege of raising three, school-aged children.
